THE IDEA

An optical illusion you can cut on, then struck by lightning.

Tumbling-block diamonds laid out before glue-up
01

Pattern

Diamonds cut from dark and light stock and assembled so three tones read as stacked cubes.

02

Burn

The Lichtenberg figure crosses every joint without stopping. The pattern and the burn compete for the eye.

Red resin filling the burn channels
03

Fill

The burn channels are flooded with pigmented resin: red on some boards, blue on others.

04

Finish

Leveled and finished until the cubes and the lightning sit in one plane.
